Valerie Bertinelli says it….I say it….now it’s time for YOU to say it!

Valerie’s bikini ready body is on the April cover of People magazine. After losing 50 pounds she now not only looks amazing but looks half her age!

I do think she looks amazing and sure she is sharing her personal transformation to help promote Jenny Craig - but she not only hits on the tag line of what Fit Yummy Mummy is all about…

…she also hits the core component of successful weight loss and I feel so strongly about this that I felt the need to share it with you too - for there are far too many weight loss resources out there that skip right over this.

What is this “Bikini Confidence” and how can you make it work for you?

While I cannot speak for Valerie and exactly what she has done exercise and eating wise to get her body back, I can speak for the fact that she is one the few who “gets it”.

Meaning - she gets that a physical transformation takes place from the inside out.

All the dieting, cardio, resistance training, getting into the smallest sized skinny jeans ever, seeing the lowest number on the scale….none of this matters nor has the impact to truly transform you unless you have the Confidence to live in this new body, appreciate this new body and keep this new body.

Those of you looking for the quick fix may quickly click away from a post such as this.

And this is quite unfortunate.

For those who choose to stay and listen are the ones who will finally put an end to years of frustration, disappointment and feelings of failure.

So much time is wasted and self esteem damaged by striving to achieve the perfect body - refusing to stop until you “get there” and taking the all or nothing approach….the whole time losing site of the fact that any type of change or transformation is a PROCESS.

Everyone wishes, hopes and dreams of skipping to the end result however pressing fast forward causes you to miss out on the essential internal changes that must take place for true, lasting confidence boosting results!

Yes, it IS Possible to Get Your Body Back


But unless you have ALL the tools you need to achieve a better body - will you even know once you get there?

Seeing weight loss and feeling a transformation are two totally different experiences.

Take a moment to consider the fitness plan you are following.

How good do you feel about your results?
How good do you feel about the process it takes to get there?

Are you getting more than just a workout or nutrition plan to follow? Are you getting the mindset you need to appreciate and enjoy the results you are achieving?

Valerie Bertinelli calls this the “bikini mindset - the confidence to strut my stuff”.

No your body does NOT have to be perfect.

But as you do achieve results, you have more energy, you actually smile when you look in the mirror and you carry your body with pride - for not only are you “loosing weight” you are taking care of yourself.

 Lose Tummy Fat: Bikini Fat Burn Flat Tummy Workout

Super charge your bikini ready body results with a flat tummy workout!

Add this flat tummy circuit to your Bikini Fat Burn workout routine to burn more fat in less time, boost your metabolism and help you “tighten” and “tone” your tummy!

This circuit of 4 flat tummy moves are moves are designed to challenge all the muscles that wrap around your core plus incorporate your upper and lower body so your work more muscles and burn more calories!

All you need is a mat and a medicine ball (or a DB). Oh yeah…and be prepared to work with intensity! This not only supercharges your metabolism but means your workouts are done in a flash!

As always, consult with your Dr before beginning a new workout or exercise routine.

1: Medicine Ball Toe Touch

Perform 10-15 toe touches.
Lying on a mat, hold a MB overhead, arms fully extended, legs perpendicular to the floor. Keep your arms straight as you raise the MB up to touch your toes. You will raise your upper body just high enough so your shoulder blades come off the floor - nothing higher. Be sure to completely lower your arms to the floor before repeating. Yes, you may choose to use a DB instead of a MB for this move. Choose a weight that is challenging to you - try to use at least 8 pounds or more.


2: Medicine Ball Twist

Perform 10-15 Twists on Each Side.
Begin in a seated position on a mat, knees bent - feet can either be on the mat or lifted for an added challenge. Be sure to lean back about 45 degrees. Maintain this posture as you fully twist, reaching over to tap the MB on each side of your hips. Go at a pace that allows you to maintain proper form! Choose a weight that is challenging to you - try to use at least 5 pounds or more.


3: Belly Blaster

This is one of my FAVES!

Perform 10-15 belly blasters.
And yes, this move does live up to its name ; )
Begin in a plank position, weight is on your forearms and toes. Make sure your hips are not too high nor too low. Push off your forearms, lifting your hips in the air and look back at your toes - pause and return to start - making sure your body is in a straight line. Keep your core tight throughout this move and don’t forget to breathe!


4: Plank

This is an excellent way to finish off any type of core work - the plank helps to build endurance as well as strengthen your deep abdominal muscles (transversus abdominis) as well as the muscles in your lower back.

Your goal - hold for 30-60 seconds!
Begin in the same position you used to start the belly blaster - only this time you do NOT move…you Hold this position. Get the most out of the plank by pulling your belly button in, as if pulling toward your spine - this ensures you have engaged your deepest core muscles. Make sure your butt is not in the air nor do your hips sag too low. Your body should form a straight line from head to toe.

Are You Shaking? This is normal if you are a beginner. You body may begin to shake after a few seconds of holding the plank position. This is simply due to a lack of coordination and strength in your core muscles. Start off with shorter intervals - holding for 5 secs at a time. As you progress, withing a couple weeks you’ll notice significant improvement in your ability to hold this position for a longer period of time without shaking!

How To Use Bikini Fat Burn Flat Tummy Exercises

Perform these 4 moves in a row with little to no rest between moves. You can add this circuit to your current resistance training plan, right after you complete a challenging round of intervals or use it alone if time is short.

Burn More Belly Fat! Just to clarify - no amount of “ab exercises” will burn the fat off your belly. This thinking is tied to the myth of spot reduction. Fat loss is a total body process. When you workout in ways that boost your metabolism using Full Body Resistance Training Moves (yes, like Fit Yummy Mummy’s 16 week workout plan) - you will begin to lose more inches, look more defined and toned plus have an abundant amount of energy!

Looking for a solution to help to get a Flat Tummy?

I’ve put together a simple plan you can use asap to start making progress on your Flat Abs for Summer plan.

One of my favorite core exercises is the Reverse Crunch.

I love it for it is a quick, easy to do, lower abs exercise that helps you tighten your tummy, the area many moms find as the SPP - the “stubborn protruding pooch.”

How to Use
Add this simple yet effective move to your workout routine.

I find that my core exercises provide the most challenge when I perform them last.

For example this move would be one of two core exercises performed in the 3rd set of my resistance training routine or I may perform them after my intervals session. EX: Reverse Crunch and Plank

Performing 3 sets of 10-12 mindful repetitions back to back with little to no rest is enough to help create change when followed with consistency. By consistency means you need to allow a good 4 to 6 weeks to see noticeable changes.

While doing exercises like this alone will not burn the fat covering your core, moves like the reverse crunch can work together with your full body workouts to draw this area of concern IN and allow you to make great progress toward flat abs for the summer.

Tighten your Tummy Twice as Fast!

All you need to do is make a few small tweaks to your nutrition plan!

Yes, what you choose to eat affects the layer of fat that remains on your tummy, however there are adjustments you can make that not only help elevate your metabolism so you burn more fat but also help you get rid of the bloat that adds to your protruding belly!

The most important step you can take to tackle this component of the Tighten Your Tummy Plan is to write down what you are currently eating. While you may initially roll your eyes or quickly come up with an excuse as to why this is just not possible - please take a moment to consider these two points.

1. The BEST fat blasting, tummy tightening workouts will fail, if you fail to change what you are eating.

2. You cannot change what you do not know exists.

So fight the urge to ignore advice that actually works - and write down what you are eating for at least 5 days.

Once you have this list in front of you - I want you to highlight how often you…

* eat sugar - not sure? Look at the label.
* eat processed foods - these are foods that come in a bag or box that do not resemble real food….yes this includes special K, slim fast, baked lays, 100 calorie packs, etc.
* eat out
* eat bread, pasta, rice, or any other starchy carbohydrates

FYI
* eat also means DRINK - how many times are you drinking a calorie containing beverage? How much sugar or artificial sugar are you consuming?

If your food log is looking like a neon sign, it is time to make some changes so you can tighten your tummy twice as fast.

Not sure what to eat?

Try this….

Foods that you can hunt, grow, pick, harvest…you know, naturally occurring foods. Foods our bodies were designed to eat.

:: Proteins - chicken, turkey, fish, beans, etc.
:: Produce - veggies, veggies, veggies (yes you do not get enough) and fruits
:: Healthy Fats - olive oil, nuts, avocado, etc.

You will be amazed at how quickly your tummy tones, tightens and stops bloating once you pair a good diet with your fat burning workouts.

Losing  Belly Fat and get a Lose Tummy Fat

 “I want to get rid of the belly fat What exercise can I do that will help?”

This is by far the most frequently asked question I receive on a daily basis. After you read this article you will have the formula for success.

However, due to the fact that many women have difficulty letting go of what they think works - only a small percentage of you will actually take what I have to share and apply it. These are the women who will be proud to wear anything that respectfully displays their beautiful, flat tummy.

Sure! Including Ab exercises as part of your routine is beneficial for strength purposes, but the truth is - no amount of “ab exercises” will make the fat on your belly disappear and help you achieve flat, sexy abs.

Doing hundreds of crunches a day will do nothing to flatten your tummy. It is my hope that I will help you bust through the “Spot Reduction Myth” once and for all.

As far as Fat Loss and “exercise” goes - you must know that you need to use a total body approach – using resistance training to work your upper body, lower body and core with exercises that incorporate many muscles at once.

This is the ONLY way to exercise that will significantly boost your metabolism so your body begins to burn more fat and calories which will reveal the Lean Toned look you are after.

Some of the best “ab exercises” actually use your whole body! (work your abs, use more muscles, increase your metabolism….that’s the way to go!) See a couple of my favorite “crunch free” exercises below!

The “Abs” that you want to work through crunches are small….giving you little in return as far as calorie burn. You can Burn double or even triple the amount of calories by doing full body resistance training exercises.

Fat loss is a total body process
As you burn more calories than you take in, you release more fat, you cannot choose where this fat comes from.

In order to lose fat, you must focus on three core principles. You need the right nutrition, the right workout, and the right amount of time to lose the belly fat and reclaim a fit and beautiful body.

1. Eat Right - Supportive nutrition is extremely important, not only to keep you energized, but to provide your boys with quality nutrients to create a healthy metabolism and burn more fat. You CANNOT achieve great abs if you are putting junk into your body - no matter how great your workout program is.

2. Short Burst Exercise - A progressively challenging, full body resistance training program provides your body with the ability to create a supercharged metabolism and a lean, fit, toned body. 3. Rest -

How To Avoid Belly Bloat and Lose Tummy Fat

I find it interesting that so many women will spend hours on “ab” specific exercises wishing, hoping and praying that this alone will help lose tummy fat and render a flat, bikini ready tummy.

While the right types of exercise will help your body burn more fat ~ full body resistance training and intervals ~ fat loss comes with time, consistency and patience with your workout plan.

But there is still a part of this equation that must be addressed and if there was ever a short cut that I could share to help you see and feel a flat tummy faster…it is getting honest about what you eat and making some changes.

Workouts alone will not get you the flat tummy you are after.

Once you eliminate the junk and begin to fill your body with whole natural foods - proteins, produce and healthy fats - your body responds! Not only will you begin to lose more fat, your tummy will also become flatter.

There are 2 main reasons why you are unhappy with your belly right now…

1. The FAT that covers it
2. The way your belly protrudes

Both of these unflattering attributes can be easily and quickly solved when you make a few adjustments to what you are eating.

Today I am simply addressing your nutrition.
I am not writing this post to lecture you on getting rid of the unnatural, highly processed foods - this is common sense if you wish to see accelerated flat tummy results - rather those of you who are making an effort may find that you can achieve results much easier by limiting or avoiding the following 3 “foods”.

1. Wheat
Actually the gluten is found in wheat, rye, oats and barley - sticky substance with a consistency like glue. It’s difficult to digest and can have a disruptive effect on the digestive system, producing toxins, gas and bloating.

Make a note of how often are you eating bread, crackers and cereals, take a second look at the ingredients list.

Substitute with guten free grains such as brown rice, quinoa, millet, buckwheat, spelt, rolled oats, Ezekiel breads are great too. Or better yet allow the majority of your meal to be fresh produce!

2. Dairy
Are you Lactose intolerant?
Thousands suffer from lactose intolerance. Lactose is the sugar naturally found in dairy products(milk, cheese, butter) and is poorly digested in many.

Substitute regular milk with milk that contains lactase. Choose cultured dairy products, such as organic or greek yogurt, which contain less lactose (Not yoplait - read THAT ingredient list!) And even cottage cheese which has less than 2% lactose.

3. Carbonated Drinks
How often are you drinking diet soda, sparking juices or waters?

Well of course your belly is going to protrude! Gas from the carbonation settles in the stomach and can even get trapped in your intestines. To double the bloat - artificial sweeteners in your diet drinks also have a bloating effect.

Stick to WATER or fresh brewed green tea.

NOTE: Please see your Dr. if suffer from constant and painful bloating.

How to Make this Work for You

Now, the degree to which you choose to try this is up to you (limit or eliminate) - I am not telling you to never eat these foods again but you will never know unless you test it out and see how your body responds without these foods.

I discovered that my body does NOT respond well to milk products nor wheat once I made my way through the Elimination Diet - roughly 3 years ago.

This is why my meals consist of protein, produce and healthy fats. I have cut out the complex carbs and majority or milk based products 80-90% of the time.

This has positively affected…

~ my energy levels
~ the appearance of my skin
~ cleared my sinuses as well as my son’s
~ and of course the reduction of stubborn fat - typically found in the lower belly area and no more belly bloat!
